Why we're building Oden for canine behaviorists first

Behaviorists have the most complex workflows and the worst tools. Fixing their problem first makes the product better for every pet professional.

Why we're building Oden for canine behaviorists first

When we started Oden, we had a choice: build a generic tool that tries to serve every pet business at once, or build something exceptional for one type of professional first.

We chose the second path. And we chose canine behaviorists.

Why behaviorists?

Behaviorists have the most complex workflows in the pet industry. A behavior case isn't a single appointment — it's an intake, an assessment, a multi-week modification plan, ongoing sessions, progress checkpoints, owner homework, and often coordination with a vet. The information that matters is deep, longitudinal, and contextual.

And yet the tools available to behaviorists are the same tools available to everyone else: calendars, spreadsheets, paper notes, and PDFs. None of them are built for the reality of a behavior case.

If we solve behavior, we solve everything else

Behavior is the hardest problem. If we can build a system that handles complex behavior cases well — the assessments, the plans, the progress over months — then simpler workflows become straightforward extensions of the same platform.

We'd rather start with the hardest case and make it exceptional than start with the easiest and pretend we serve everyone.

What this means for behaviorists today

If you're a canine behaviorist, Oden is being built specifically around how you work. Your cases, your assessments, your modification plans, your progress checkpoints, your owner communication. Not a generic CRM with a paw print on it.

We're onboarding a small group of Founding Members now. If that's you, we'd like to talk.
