What we learned from thousands of pet professionals
Before building Oden, we listened. Here's what pet professionals told us about how they actually work — and what they wish software did differently.
What we learned from thousands of pet professionals
Before we wrote a single line of code, we spent months listening. We read thousands of reviews of existing pet software. We talked to behaviorists, trainers, groomers, and shelter staff. We watched how they actually worked — not how they said they worked.
Here's what we learned.
1. The tools are worse than the problem
Most pet professionals aren't struggling because the work is hard. They're struggling because the tools they use to manage the work were never built for them. Spreadsheets don't know what a session is. Calendars don't know what a waiver is. Invoicing tools don't know what a training plan is.
The tools are the problem.
2. Context is everything
A behavior case isn't a single appointment. It's a longitudinal relationship with a dog and an owner, spanning weeks or months, with notes, plans, progress, and homework. When that context lives in five different tools, you lose it.
Professionals told us, over and over: "I just want everything in one place."
3. They don't want more software. They want less.
The last thing pet professionals need is another app to log into. What they want is one system that replaces the four they're already using — and does it better.
4. They want to be understood
Generic business software treats pet professionals like any other service business. But the relationship between a behaviorist, a dog, and an owner isn't "any other service." It's specific. It's contextual. It's longitudinal. Software that doesn't understand that is software that gets in the way.
What we did with this
We built Oden around these four lessons. One system. One context. Replaces five tools. Built specifically for pet professionals — starting with canine behaviorists.
We're still listening. If you're a pet professional and something about your current setup drives you crazy, tell us. We're building Oden for you.
